The Latest from Team Tyas

Jack has been going really well and is looking cracking. The past two weeks have been very busy as Alison competed him at the Regional Driving event held at Goodwood over the weekend of 19/20 August. She was third in the dressage with a double clear in the cones and then had a good marathon. The going was quite challenging as the grounds around Goodwood are very hilly (something that we don’t have very many of in Norfolk.) Alison had a good round – with the fastest time of the day through one of the obstacles and finished the competition in 4th place.

After a quick clean up of horse, carriage and harness and change of carriage seats, Jack and I then set off to Henbury Hall (Cheshire) to compete at the National Para Driving Championships. It proved to be quite a challenging journey due to the bank holiday weekend and the volume of traffic was relentless throughout the country. Some 7.5 hours later though we arrived at Henbury and were greeted with tractors to pull us onto the site. Our preparation for the event stood us well as the relentless rain made the going for the whole competition extremely heavy. We won the dressage and this combined with our cones score meant that we went into the marathon as overnight leaders. With the weather conditions being as bad as they were – torrential rain, thunder and lightening we walked our obstacles with straight and flowing routes to allow us to avoid ruts and the ever increasing mud. The marathon went well with Jack making some good times through the obstacles but unfortunately the nippiness of the ponies times through the obstacles meant that we dropped to 2nd. The event was an overwhelming success with drivers coming from as far a field as Ireland.

We are now preparing for Windsor Nationals which Alison is driving at, and really looking forward to what should be a fun and exciting few days.
