Soffit lights are often installed around the outside of a property, on roofs, around balconies and decking, highlighting the exterior and creating an eye-catching feature. They can also be a handy means of adding outdoor lighting for gardens and patios, perfect if you enjoy entertaining al fresco and helping you and your guests get around more safely.

Many types of soffit lights also come with motion sensors, which can act as a more subtle form of security lighting, alerting you to any unwanted guests on your property.

Although they are a small addition to the outside of your home, there are choices to be made when you’re picking soffit lights. To start with, you’ll need to choose the colour – you might pick white, if your soffits are that colour – or you might decide to choose from chrome, nickel, or steel effects, depending on the style of your home. But even within those styles, you can choose between matte, and shiny polished finishes, and you can also choose the colour temperature of your soffit lights too. Choose between warm white, or cool white lights, based on what complements your home the best – and between adjustable and fixed soffit lights, so that you can angle your lights to make the most of architectural features.

Of course, with all types of outdoor lighting, you’ll need to ensure you have the right level of safety rating – since some soffit lights are installed under cover, some styles are just IP44, but because most will be completely exposed to the elements, you’ll find most have a safety rating of IP65.
