A Recent Driveway Installation
We recently worked with a customer that wanted to light their front driveway for both style and security purposes, the issue was that the drive was an odd shade with flower borders with the property being a period cottage with cart lodge. We advised the customer to use a local trenching contractor that had access to specialist equipment for laying steel wire armoured cables under the existing drive way. The contractor used a mole machine which worked of compressed air. Four holes where dug in the driveway at various points where the customer wanted their power pickup points to be located. The mole machine was then lowered into the hole facing towards the direction of the next hole. the machine than punched its way under the driveway at a depth of approx. one meter creating a round void behind it into which the machine pulled a flexible high grade plastic pipe as it went. A draw string (small rope) was also housed within the pipe to act as a guide to pull through the SWA cable at a later date. This method of laying cables under a driveway worked really well for this installation and did not disturb the fabric of the driveway, the works being completed in approx. 4 hours and at a cost of less than £500.00.
